Background

Right To Be (formerly Hollaback!) is a globally-recognized non-profit dedicated to building a world free of hate and harassment, and filled with humanity. Using its unique bystander intervention methodology, Right To Be has provided thousands of digital, in-person, and in-school trainings equipping over 3 million people with the tools to help end harassment in all its forms. Through its Allies Solidarity Network, Right To Be also partners with other leading organizations to drive national anti-hate advocacy, education, and policy change efforts.

Challenge

In 2020, Right To Be experienced a sudden and significant surge in corporate partnership inquiries, resulting in a backlog of nearly 1,000 requests. The organization lacked both the systems and capacity to effectively capture and transform those inquiries into meaningful relationships, leaving substantial revenue untapped and larger philanthropic relationships with corporations at risk.

Solution

Given the urgency of Right To Be’s needs, Advance Collaborative prioritized a rapid-response assessment and systems rollout. To help the organization manage, organize, and sustain its growing corporate demand, we focused on: 

  • Formalizing an overall corporate partnership model;
  • Establishing clear processes, tools, and materials to standardize efficient and consistent intake of partnership inquiries;
  • Capturing and organizing partner information while the organization’s CRM was still in development; and
  • Providing high-level guidance for corporate conversations while supporting the onboarding of a new Director of Partnerships to lead stewardship long-term.

Together, this approach created immediate direction and capacity that enabled the organization to capitalize on an unprecedented opportunity for corporate growth.

Impact

Within just five months, our collaboration transformed Right To Be’s corporate relationship-building efforts, creating immediate direction and capacity that enabled the organization to capitalize on an unprecedented opportunity for corporate growth:

  • Together, we designed and launched the new Corporate Accomplice Program, creating a structured and scalable partnership model supported by templated communications and standardized benefits. 
  • Advance cleared the backlog of corporate inquiries, stepping into an externally-facing customer service role and using custom designed tracking systems to manage the high volume of inquiries.
  • With our strategic partnership, Right To Be secured multiple new six-figure partnerships and hundreds of new corporate relationships across levels. 
  • Equally critical, we implemented interim data management systems that reliably captured key partnership information while positioning the organization for seamless CRM integration. 

The structures, systems, and tools we introduced continue to underpin the organization’s corporate growth today. In total, Right To Be renewed or expanded its work with Advance Collaborative four times, underscoring the immense value of the strategies established in collaboration.
